Inter-Disciplinary.Net prides itself on providing a unique, rewarding and enriching experience for all who come to our events. We believe we’re unmatched in our commitment to welcoming people from multiple disciplines, backgrounds, perspectives and affiliations, and we strive to create a space in which ideas, discussion and genuine appreciation for different points of view are valued.

But don’t take our word for it. This is what others have volunteered after being involved in one of our projects.

It gives me great pleasure to write to you, in order to thank you for the exciting intellectual adventure called the Gender and Love Conference, hosted at Mansfield College a couple of weeks ago. It was an honour for me to take part in one of the most challenging, thought-provoking and inspiring conferences I have ever attended. The idea of a small number of participants was excellent: it was such a great opportunity to meet new colleagues from all over the world and learn about their professional interests.

I will definitely send a longer email to Matt and Harris not only to thank them for a truly unforgettable experience but also to offer some ideas concerning my future involvement with ID.Net. I would also like to thank you for such an amazing event which I feel honestly privileged to have been a part of. Since right after the Oxford conference I went to another one in Slovakia …. recalling the whole event I honestly cannot think of one thing that went even slightly wrong – amazing venue, inspiring presentations (often touching on things which probably would have never crossed my mind otherwise), relaxed and friendly atmosphere, perfect organization and, needless to say, some of the pubs in the area, it really was a unique experience so thank you once again.”

“I have attended conferences for twelve years, and quickly learned to appreciate especially the lack of hierarchy of ID.Net. Students side by side with university professors discussing on the same level is something valuable, and not to be missed. I want to do my part to keep it alive.”

“From beginning to end, everything was so carefully planned and organized. The conference was of high scientific interest and it was a great opportunity to meet very kind and friendly people. All presentations and discussions were interesting and took place in a constructive and hospitable atmosphere. Attending the conference I found a lots of ideas that are particularly interesting to me for my further research work.”

“Once more this Conference (I’ve been part of the ‘Suffering crowd’ since its inception in 2010) proved to be a very stimulating and rewarding space intellectually and otherwise. High quality presentations, and some really brilliant.”

“Thank you for a wonderful conference. It was truly stimulating and affecting on many levels. What a great opportunity to get some interesting and interested minds together in one place. Thank you for organising such a seamless and stimulating conference. I really enjoyed the conference: the structure and diversity of speakers, the location and setting, and the opportunity to meet and interact with many interesting and creative minds. I hope to come again in the future, an will recommend the conference to others in my field.”

“Fears and Anxieties of the 21st Century, which I attended last summer was an academic feast very much worth attending next year. Both project leaders Magdalena and Catalin, and the participants created most congenial and amicable atmosphere in which it was safe and comfortable to exchange of ideas. All the papers were of exceptional standard and within the friendly setting many academic bonds were formed. The grounds of the Mansfield College are beautiful and everyone is very welcoming. This conference deserves many LIKES. You should come and experience the next year’s edition as well. Don’t forget to bring your ideas with you.”

“The first Fears and Anxieties Conference (July 2014) brought together a very varied group of people; unusual for any conference I attended. Even more unusual was that these different backgrounds did not complicate the mutual discussions; on the contrary. Right from the start the conference organizers created an atmosphere in which everybody felt welcome and taken seriously – not because of her/his academic status, experience, working field etc. but simply because of who they were and the paper they had proposed. It was the starting point of some very inspiring days!”

The conference was a great opportunity to meet people with a wide variety of interests, backgrounds and personalities. For me, this was the most rewarding part, as it led to a lively interdisciplinary exchange and at the same time to an interesting, worthwhile experience on a more personal level. It was truly enriching to come into touch with so many different perspectives. I also really appreciated the informal setting and the small number of participants, which allowed each of us to attend all the presentations and take part in the follow-up discussions. There were a lot of mind-provoking discussions during the conference itself, and the direct feedback following my presentation and the more informal conversations I had with some of the participants resulted in ideas for further research on connected topics. I look forward to next year’s edition and I am confident that the ‘Fears and Anxieties’ project will develop in interesting directions.”

Thank you for a lovely conference, I found it to be a stimulating and very thought-provoking few days. It was great meeting so many like-minded people and to be able to have the space to have long fruitful conversations. The hotel was great and the staff were very keen to be helpful.”
