Session 5: Workshop

College Students as Philosophic Facilitators
Thomas Wartenberg
Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley, Massachusetts, USA
In my talk, I want to describe to you what I think is an underused and undertheorized means of having philosophical discussions with elementary school children. From what I can tell, there are two main forms that efforts to teach philosophy to children takes. The first involves a philosopher leading a philosophical discussion with children. The second focuses on elementary school teachers and involves specialized training in philosophy for children. The alternative model I want to put forward is using college students as philosophic facilitators in elementary schools.
