Interdisciplinary Curriculum Links in Teaching and Learning (ICR)
Helen Hong, Ng Lai Wah Connie, Gurdial Kaur
Qihua Primary School , Singapore

The school piloted a project on Interdisciplinary Curriculum Links in Teaching and Learning (ICR) where teachers integrated various subjects and taught across various disciplines in a borderless classroom. The objectives were to explore innovative approaches to structuring the timetable to enable an integrated approach, to create a fun and experiential learning environment for students and to enable students to make connections across disciplines.
An evaluation of the project showed that teaching was more meaningful as teachers collaborated on creating lessons that helped students understand concepts and engaged them in creative exploration and application. Students developed social and interactive skills, gained confidence in expressing their opinions and were able to comprehend and learn concepts better. Included in this paper presentation is the process of planning an ICR module.
The school has since integrated interdisciplinary project work and National Education with ICR through a whole school approach. The learning journey taken by the teachers will be shared.
