Welcome to the Critical issues in Sex and Sexuality project home page. The project seeks to examine issues of sexuality across a range of critical and cultural perspectives. In an effort to promote innovative inter- and multidisciplinary exchange, the project will bring together people working in any relevant disciplines along with queer activists and professionals in non-profit and non-governmental organizations.

The project will critically engage with a number of core themes:

  • Sexuality and Politics: the mainstreaming of lesbian and gay issues; lobbying; queer activism,  transgender movements and transsexual movements
  • Sexuality and Cultural Texts: representations of sexuality in literature, film, art, religion, history, psychology, and law
  • Sexuality and Work: sex work, sexuality and the workplace, sexual education
  • Collective Identities: race, class, gender, and the production of sexuality
  • Sexualities and Theories: queer theory, feminisms, transtheory, psychoanalysis, cultural studies, interdisciplinary approaches
  • Sexuality and Power: role playing, legal issues/cases, legislation/policy making

Related themes will also be identified for development and exploration. Out of our deliberations it is anticipated that a series of related cross-context research projects will develop.
