Welcome to the Connectivity in the 21st Century project home page. The project aims to explore multi- and inter-disciplinary perspectives on the interaction, intersection and interdependence of individuals, communities and cultures within the contemporary world, or what we night call — Connectivity. Connectivity is defined as “a sense of being a part of something larger than oneself. It is a sense of belonging, or a sense of accompaniment. With the exponential creation of technological networks and avenues, humanity has on the one hand developed more opportunities to connect to one another in ways never thought possible, while at the same time there has been an increase of people expressing a deep sense of disconnection to those around them. This project aims to pull together how each discipline speaks to others as the planet digitally shrinks but the spread of humanity continues unabated with serious issues such adolescent suicide, loneliness and depression, all related to the notion of ‘connectivity’.
The main themes to be developed within this research project are presently collected together under four main headings;
- Connectivity and Social Media
- Connectivity and Gaming Communities
- Connectivity and Social Emotional Intelligence
- Connectivity as a precept of wellbeing
Related themes will also be identified for development and exploration. Out of our deliberations it is anticipated that a series of related cross context research projects will develop.
