Cross-cultural Diversity in the Knowledge Management Concepts of 20-21st Centuries within the Framework of International Dialogue for Creation of a New Model of Knowledge Management

In this article we explore various perceptions of Knowledge Management (KM) and KM practices. In the end of 1990s an American scientist D.Cohen (1998) wrote that the most useful context for knowledge is not one clear theory, but a “fabric of ideas” (pp.30-31), each enriched by its contrast and connection with the others. We will study cross-cultural context where it is easier for researches and practitioners to receive information and use all the diversity of KM approaches which appeared in different cultural-institutional traditions. D.Cohen studied American and Japanese KM approaches. The Chinese style was described by Z.Zhu. We would like to go further and study Russian approach (including Vygotsky activity theory, the concept of knowledge by Schedrovitsky, etc) in order to make the picture of similarities and diversities more complete. All approaches are summarized in a table. After studying interconnections between all approaches we will have an opportunity for better understanding the versatility of the science of KM development. Cosequently, the article posits, Knowledge Management will develop further everywhere in the world, including Russia, but not from the universal concept of isolated models and approaches, but from the interaction of all existing models. In our opinion it is important not only to collect all knowledge in various areas of science, art and culture, i.e. all knowledge created by the humanity. It is important to approximate every object of knowledge as a multi-layer structure so that it would be possible to synthesize all present knowledge for developing a new approach to their storage and re-using. And this will guarantee the progress in various areas of science, art and culture in the World.
